Japanese brands continue to dominate the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability rankings, while some European brands gained and Ford Motor Co. continued to rank near the bottom of the industry. Despite falling victim to Saab’s bankruptcy, the Saab Museum has been saved by Trollhatten City, Saab AB and the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Fund. When we reported that the Saab Museum – and all its cars – was up for sale last week to try and bring in a few coppers to fill the black hole that is the Bankrupt Saab’s finances, it looked as if the historic collec tion – which includes the very first Ursaab – was destined to be broken up. The fate of the Saab Museum seemed to be to be scattered to the four corners of the globe as each car was sold to the highest bidder, but it’s been revealed that the entire collection - including the Museum building - has been saved for the Swedish nation.
Koenigsegg, our favorite hard-to-pronounce Swedish supercar manufacturer, got the word on Wednesday that its latest car has broken six world records. The Agera R, which uses a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine, sprinted from 0 to 300 kph (186.4 mph) in a Stephen Hawking-impressing 14.53 seconds. For us nonmetric types, the Agera R also went from 0 to 200 mph in 17.68 seconds; both runs were verified with a Racelogic VBox recorder.
